President's  Corner

The 2005/2006 Charlotte Chapter of CPCU had a very successful year.  We are pleased that we were able to achieve our basic objectives of increasing the visibility of CPCU, providing members with programs and services to ensure their success and demonstrating stewardship in managing chapter monies.

From a program standpoint we were pleased to have seven successful chapter meetings featuring a variety of excellent speakers.  The annual CPCU Forum in November was well attended and highlighted the theme of “The Evolution of Insurance.”  We were fortunate to have an excellent presentation by our Commissioner Jim Long.

We have provided continuing education classes for our P&C-licensed members and conducted a National Leadership Seminar about Strategic Thinking and Planning.  We continued our candidate classes throughout the year that included CPCU, ARM, INS 21 and AIC classes.  This year we have started a new mentoring program that links CPCU candidates with current members to help them achieve their professional objectives.  This year we had 6 new CPCU designees.

Through our scholarships we have assisted students at both UNCC as well as Appalachian State with monetary scholarships as well as conducting shadow days so students can better see what the Property & Casualty business is all about.  In addition, we have raised money for The Urban Ministry and promoted Junior Achievement of the Carolinas.  We were pleased to sponsor a Cyber Liability Seminar that was conducted by the National Association of Insurance Women.

We held out 10th Annual CPCU Golf Tournament at Birkdale.  Again, that tournament was very successful in helping us raise scholarship funds and in promoting the organization.  Most recently, we conducted our annual meeting in conjunction with the showing of the Dead Sea Scrolls at Discovery Place.
